The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspiration for many songs and stories.

Alhambra the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra, is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It was originally constructed as a fortress in 889, and was converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada.

The Alhambra’s Islamic palaces were built for the last Muslim Emirs in Spain and its court, of the Nasrid dynasty. After the Reconquista (reconquest) by the Reyes Católicos (“Catholic Monarchs”) in 1492, some portions were used by the Christian rulers. The Palace of Charles V, built by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in 1527, was inserted in the Alhambra within the Nasrid fortifications. After being allowed to fall into disrepair for centuries, the Alhambra was “discovered” in the 19th century by European scholars and travelers, with restorations commencing. It is now one of Spain’s major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country’s most significant and well known Berber Islamic architecture.

By order of the Regency of the Kingdom, 10 February 1870, confirmed by Royal Decree on 21 July 1872, and amplified by Royal Decree on 11 June 1896, the Alcazar of the Alhambra of Granada, as well as their gardens and accessory structures, are declared national-artistic monuments, and Elvira’s Gate is declared incorporated.

In the twentieth century, by Royal Decree on 27 July 1943 the gardens of the Alhambra and the Generalife are declared Historical Gardens.

More recently, at the UNESCO Convention, which was held in Buenos Aires between 29 October and 2 November 1984, the World Heritage Committee proceeded to officially include the Alhambra and the Generalife of Granada on the World Heritage List.

Written for the film Swing Time (1936), Pick Yourself Up, and is sung by Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The song has been recorded by Astaire and numerous other artists since it’s introduction, and even made an appearance in Barack Obama’s inauguration speech in 2009.
The dance connected to this song has been quoted as being one of the pair’s best, with John Mueller stating: “[the dance] is one of the very greatest of Astaire’s playful duets: boundlessly joyous, endlessly re-seeable.”

There’s little to no international media coverage of what is going on in my country, Venezuela, so I’m taking to Reddit to let these images out there for the world to know. Most of them are pretty self-explanatory. But a quick “down-and-dirty”:

Venezuela is divided into supporters of Chavez (called oficialists) and the opposition. After the Sunday elections there has been a non-stop outrage by the opposition after numerous pictures have surfaced of the military (controlled by the Chavez government) destroying the voting urns, driving around in motorcycles to shoot and scare the opposition from protesting and giving weapons to oficialists to “fight for the country”.

In general, the people in red are oficialists, so it’s an easy way of identifying them in the pictures. You can see that is the people wearing red and military suits, who are creating chaos, destroying and killing people.

I’m also adding here several videos that continue to show this insane violence:

Lastly, I know there is going to be numerous responses to this from Chavez supporters. I can’t stop that, but don’t be a Sean Penn. Don’t talk about Venezuela if you have never lived here. If you do live here and you think the opposition is the one creating chaos. I ask you to watch those videos and pictures. Venezuela can’t take more division, this is not about the oficialists winning, or the opposition winning, it’s about Venezuela as a whole. Are we going to die separate or live together? The massacre has to stop, the truth must come out. We the Venezuelan people are amazing, but unfortunately we have been pawned against each other for the last 14 years by the government and we forgot that we are all in this together.

EDIT: Apparently the pictures of the burning votes has been flying around the Venezuelan social media under false information. I apologize if that is the case, as the whole point of the post is trying to bring out the light, truth and most important, awareness to what is happening in the country. However, I posted several videos and other pictures and I hope everyone reading this doesn’t dismiss that evidence because of this.

Edit 2: I believe I got lost in translation with my “Don’t talk about Venezuela if you have never lived here”. I will like to clarify what I meant was that there is a lot of people pretending to understand the situation as if they lived here (such as the case with Sean Penn, who felt he supported Chavez just because he opposed Bush). Please, talk about Venezuela and inform yourselves, what is going on here needs to be heard by the international community.
